Parbathi works in the Pala House (moisture management). She is 40 years of age and comes from Jamdo, a village 6km away. She has worked in mill for 4 years and during the off season works as a daily wage labourer. She prefers working at this gin as, although rates of pay are same as other mills, the owner of this mill is very much into social welfare and fair trading – He has provided good working conditions and accommodation at the mill plus gives Sunday as a holiday – a Fairtrade requirement.
